Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance
GNCA
Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance is a national conservative political party in Hungary, led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Originally founded in 1988 as a liberal youth movement, Fidesz transformed in the late 1990s into a dominant force of right-wing populism and national conservatism. The party emphasizes Hungarian sovereignty, Christian cultural identity, and traditional family values, while maintaining a critical stance toward the European Union, liberal democracy, and immigration. Fidesz frames itself as a bulwark against what it describes as globalist influence and leftist ideology, often invoking the protection of national traditions and Christian civilization. Under Orbán’s leadership, Fidesz has centralized political power, restructured Hungary’s media and judiciary, and positioned itself at the forefront of the European national conservative movement, advocating for an “illiberal democracy” model.
