On 18 May 2021, the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) issued a statement expressing its “deep dismay” with the Biden administration over its stance on the violence in Israel and Gaza. May 18, 2021 The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) expresses its deep dismay and aggrieved disappointment with President Joseph Biden and his administration for giving a beaming green light to the memoryless Israeli killing machine to continue their flagrant implementation of an arrogant apartheid, open ethnic cleansing, and blatant commission of war crimes in their ongoing, indiscriminate, monstrously disproportionate, savage mass slaughter of Palestinian babies, children, the elderly, women, entire families, and men in besieged Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and throughout the lands confiscated from the Palestinian people in the colonial project and aggressions of 1948 and 1967.

In the letter, the USCMO said Biden was “gaslighting the American people and the world” and strongly criticized his decision to resupply Israeli air defense systems. The umbrella group also listed several policy demands, including saying the administration had to immediately enforce “an end to the expulsion and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians by colonist-settlers” and impose a cessation of all US military and logistical aid to Israel indefinitely.
According to a BBC report, after 11 days of fighting at least 243 people, including more than 100 women and children, were killed in Gaza, according to its health ministry. Israel has said it killed at least 225 militants during the fighting. Hamas has not given casualty figures for fighters. In Israel, 12 people, including two children, were killed, its medical service says.
The United States Council of Muslim Organizations was established in 2014 by eight organizations, seven of which are part of the US Muslim Brotherhood. Since its founding, the USCMO has grown to include 35 member organizations, almost half known to be part of the US MB and including almost every important component of the Brotherhood in the US.
In May 2021, the Global Influence Operations Report (GIOR) reported that the USCMO had published an open letter calling on President Biden to appoint a State Department special envoy to monitor and combat Islamophobia. Prior GIOR reporting about the USCMO has also included:
- An October 2020 report that Turkish President Erdoğan had welcomed USCMO representatives to the Turkish presidential complex, discussing the need to strengthen US-Turkish relations.
- A January 2021 report that the USCMO had published an online form for government jobs in the Biden administration as part of its “Empowerment and Service” program.
- An April 2021 report that the representative of a USCMO member organization had met with the Turkish ambassador to the US and a Turkish-American influence group closely tied to the Turkish ruling party.
