Mevlüt Karakaya is a deputy chairman and MP of the Nationalist Action Party (MHP), the government coalition partner of President Erdoğan’s AKP party.
Turkish-American National Steering Committee (TASC) Vice Chairman Gökhan Doğan is also the president of Young MÜSİAD USA. MÜSİAD, in turn, is a Turkish businessman’s group founded in 1990 which aims to create a synthesis of business and conservative Islamic values.
