Iranian-linked Organization Leaves German State-recognized Shura Council

German Islamist media is reporting that a mosque organization linked to the Iranian government left a Shura council that has an agreement with the German government. According to the IslamiQ report:

January 4, 2022: The Islamic Center Hamburg has left the board of SCHURA-Hamburg. In November, the Shura Council was restructured. Instead of three co-chairmen, there is now only one, the new chairman Fatih Yıldız told dpa. The restructuring, he said, was primarily done to make the board more capable of acting and more diverse. The evaluation of the state treaty had played a secondary role. Interior Senator Andy Grote expressed his delight at the departure of the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH) from the Shura Council. “We have always said quite clearly: here we are dealing with extremists,” the SPD politician told the German Press Agency. “That’s why we were not sad now when we learned that the Islamic Center has left the Shura Council.“The IZH, which runs the Blue Mosque on the Alster, is seen by the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution as an outpost of the Iranian mullah regime in Europe and has been under surveillance for decades. Until now, it provided one of three co-chairmen of the Shura. The CDU, AfD and FDP have therefore long been calling for the state treaty with the Council of Islamic Communities (Shura) to at least be put on hold. [Translated by DeepL with edits]
