Far-Right Dutch Political Leader Hopes Russia Will Win the War in Ukraine; Thierry Baudet Thinks Putin is “Fantastic”

Dutch media is report­ing that far-right MP Thier­ry Baudet is fac­ing a sev­en-day ban on par­tic­i­pat­ing in par­lia­men­tary debates in con­nec­tion with con­flict of inter­est issues. The Dutch News NL report also sum­ma­rizes Baude­t’s Eng­lish lan­guage inter­view this week in which he gushed praise for Russ­ian Pres­i­dent Vladimir Putin and hoped that Rus­sia would win the war in Ukraine:

Octo­ber 13, 2022  Baudet has also been in the spot­light this week for say­ing in an Eng­lish lan­guage inter­view that he hoped Rus­sia would win the war in Ukraine and that it is ‘fan­tas­tic’ some­one like Putin exists. ‘It is one of the most hope­ful things in the world today,’ he told con­spir­a­cy the­o­rist web­site Oper­a­tion Peo­ple. ‘The best thing would be if the EU would fall apart, if Nato would fall apart and the US empire would fall apart.’

Baudet is the leader of the Dutch far-right, pop­ulist polit­i­cal par­ty known as the FvD. The Glob­al Influ­ence Oper­a­tions Report (GIOR) report­ed ear­li­er this month that he was fea­tured on a pod­cast with US right-wing extrem­ist Steve Ban­non where he pro­mot­ed a con­spir­a­cy the­o­ry also being pro­mot­ed by Russ­ian influ­ence oper­a­tions and known as the “Great Reset.” In Feb­ru­ary 2022, the Glob­al Influ­ence Oper­a­tions Report (GIOR) pub­lished a report on the grow­ing Nation­al Con­ser­v­a­tive Alliance and its poten­tial as a vehi­cle for Russ­ian influ­ence oper­a­tions. That report not­ed Baude­t’s appear­ance at a Nation­al Con­ser­v­a­tive con­fer­ence and his pro-Russ­ian and pro-Putin positions.
