The website of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is reporting that US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D‑MI) has joined a virtual gathering in connection with a Muslim congressional advocacy event hosted by a prominent US Muslim Brotherhood group. According to the post:
June 25, 2021 The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today joined the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) in celebrating the conclusion of the 6th annual “National Muslim Congressional Advocacy Week,” during which more than 550 delegates from 28 states met virtually with some 150 elected officials and congressional staffers – a digital record breaker for the American Muslim community.

The sixth edition of the “National Muslim Congressional Advocacy Week“ was sponsored by the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), an umbrella group of US Muslim organizations comprised almost solely of elements of the Global Muslim Brotherhood (GMB) in the US.
According to the USCMO website, the event included discussions of many registered Muslim delegates with congressional staffers and lawmakers about issues affecting American Muslims and other minorities, including supporting the Senate advancement of the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act and creating a State Department Islamophobia envoy position. In May, it was reported that the USCMO was calling on the Biden Administration to create such a position.
Groups tied to the GMB in the US have repeatedly hosted civic engagement events providing Muslim citizens an opportunity to participate in meetings with legislative offices and state senators.
In July 2020, the Global Influence Operations Report (GIOR) reported that Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was one of the participants in a virtual conference that also included then Presidential hopeful Joe Biden and two important leaders of the US Muslim Brotherhood.
Other reporting by the GIOR about Omar has included:
- A December 2020 report that she was featured at a Palestinian advocacy conference whose sponsor is tied to the US Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas support groups.
- An April 2021 report that Omar supported a viral social media campaign protesting a proposal by the French senate to ban minors from wearing the hijab in public spaces that was also pushed by GMB groups.
